Sunrise has announced the next Gundam series, Kidou Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans (aka Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans) at a recent presscon.
The series comes straight off the heels of the latest Universal Century entry G no Reconguista however it is not yet known if this is another entry in that timeline or if it will be another alternate universe. What we do know is a certain war event of 300 years ago paves way for the setting of Tekketsu no Orphans.
The main Gundam this time around is the Gundam Barbatos, which is a relic from the said war from long ago. It has this gimmick of “upgrading via various junk from enemies and allies alike”. The main characters are Mikazuki Augus and Orga Itsuka
The series will be directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai (Ano Natsu de Matteru, Ano Hana) with series composition done by Mari Okada (Toradora!, Hanasaku Iroha, AKB0048). Michinori Chiba (Gundam 00, Gundam AGE) handled the character designs, while Naohiro Washio (Kakumeiki Valvrave), Kanetake Ebikawa(Eureka Seven AO, Vandread Second Stage, Gundam Build Fighters), Ippei Gyobu (Gundam G no Reconguista), Kenji Teraoka (Code Geass, Aldnoah.Zero), and Tamotsu Shinohara (Rean no Tsubasa) handled the mecha designs.
As usual, Bandai will be releasing model kits, some of which has already been revealed along with an entry in the NXEDGE line.
The series will start airing on October 4, 2015.
