Let’s Celebrate Free Comic Book Day 2017!

The first Saturday of May is about to come. That means that once again, it’s time to celebrate FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!

The first Free Comic Book Day happened in May 2002, on the release date of the the first Spider-Man movie, in order to take advantage of the serious amount of promotion that went behind the movie. It was a neat way of promoting the North American comic book industry, especially in light of the speculator bust that took place in the 1990s. It was also bound to go ways towards showing comic books in more “general admission” friendly, positive light.

Now, over fifteen years later, Free Comic Book Day has become an opportunity for all comic book readers – young or old, male or female, straight or queer – to enjoy what they love the most and share this love with everyone else. Mainstream and independent publishers alike take advantage of Free Comic Book Day to promote comics as a literary medium that can be read and appreciated by everyone around the world.

Here’s a video from the Free Comic Book Day YouTube page if you want to know more about this awesome event!

In an effort to join the fun, some of our local comic book stores have some cool stuff scheduled. We’ve plugged in some general deets, and linked their event pages.

Comic Odyssey: Free admission, kid friendly. Participating branches include: Fully Booked @ BGC, Alabang Town Center, Robinson’s Gallery. Event Details Here.

Filbar’s: Free admission, kid friendly. SM Megamall. Event Details Here
