Netflix to produce Marvel’s RUNAWAYS

Netflix seems to be on board with expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as they’ve just released the official logo for the small-screen adaptation of Marvel’s Runaways.

Rumors of a movie adaptation were originally shelved back in 2013 in light of the success garnered by The Avengers, with a vague possibility offered to fans that Runaways could be included in Phase Three lineup. It looks like the beloved rag-tag gang of superteens will be joining Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones as part of the Netflix family and the new set up may prove better than a single film to expand yet another side to Marvel’s Universe.

Created by Brian K. Vaughan, Runaways followed the adventures of six teenagers who discover that their parents comprise “The Pride” — a criminal group of mad scientists, telepathically gifted mutants, mob bosses, alien invaders, time-travelers and dark wizards. Unwilling to grow up to be groomed as the next generation of super-villains, Nico Minoru, Alex Wilder, Chase Stein, Gertrude Yorkes, Karolina Dean and Molly Hayes rebel against their own families and eventually take them down.

The series ran from 2003 to 2009 under Marvel’s Tsunami imprint, and Wizard Magazine declared it “one of the best original concepts from Marvel in thirty years”.

Official casting for the series has yet to be announced, but rumor has it that the original creative team might have a hand in the script.
