April 2018 Events and Happenings Checklist!

With March ending right around the corner, April 2018 events and happenings are shaping up to be just as exciting for geeks and hobbyists around the country. Our folks here at What’s A Geek! bring you events and happenings to expect next month. Just what events await you and your friends? Turns out, there are a ton of options for you to take, depending on your tastes.

April 2018 Events: Variety is Key

Variety seems to be April 2018’s specialty! This is evidenced by quite the variety of upcoming events for enthusiasts all over the country. Moreover, fans and supporters of various industries can join a wide variety of events below. Mark your calendars as April 2018 is shaping up to be quite the busy month.


Week 1 (April 1 to April 7)

RetroCon 2018 (April 7)

Fancy yourself a fan of retro? Then you may want to buckle up and head to The War Room in Greenhills for a day of retro goodness. Enjoy classic tabletop games such as Marvel Supeheroes, Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, and Vampire: The Masquerade.


Week 2 (April 8 to April 14)

MWF 1: Kasaysayan (April 8)

Pinoy wrestling fans can go to Elements At Centris in Metro Manila for some Filipino-brand wrestling courtesy of MWF 1: Kasaysayan. If you’re a fan of the Manila Wrestling Federation, or if you want to see just what is the hype is all about, this is for you.

Monty Python’s Spamalot (April 13)

If you miss having a dash of Monty Python in your life, then Upstart Productions will fill that need for you. Head to the BGC Arts Center in Taguig this April 13 for Spamalot. Although the theme itself is a bit vague, the team did tease “the scene will make sense” when watched in the full play.

National Swap Meet 2 (April 13)

Toy collectors ought to bring the best of their collections at the Megatrade Hall this April 13 for National Swap Meet 2. Pegged to be the meet “for collectors, by collectors,” it seems toy enthusiasts will have a ton of fun exploring this event.

Summer Komikon 2018

If you think summer will stop geeks from hanging out together in the country, you thought wrong. Bayanihan Center in Pasig will once again host the annual Summer Komikon this April 14! If you and your friends are looking for a geeky summer getaway, the this is the event for you!

 


Week 3 (April 15 to April 21)

Magic the Gathering: 25th Anniversary Quiz Night (April 15)

Planeswalkers, assemble! If you’re up to meet fellow players and fans of Magic: the Gathering, you may want to head to Makati for a quiz night. It may be nigh time to prove you have the power to dominate the realms.

Gamefest 2018 (April 20)

Gamers near SM Fairview, you may want to head to SM Cyberzone this April 20. Fans of games such as pecial Force 1 and 2, Cabal Online, and Club Audition can participate in competitions with bundles, freebies, and special events.


Week 4 (April 22 to April 28)

Light ‘Em Up: The Science of Reflective Materials (April 28)

Science enthusiasts interested in science-ing can go to the Mind Museum this April 28 to learn more about reflective materials. Guest engineers from 3M Philippines will be explaining just how reflective materials can help make roads much safer for traffic.

How to Write Love Stories (April 28)

Palanca Awardee Joem Antonio, Ph.D. will be teaching romantic writers and writers-at-heart the secrets of creating heartwarming tales in a six-hour crash course. The session will be held at Fully Booked at Greenbelt 5, Ayala Center, in Makati.

Ozine Fest 2018 (April 28 to April 29)

Anime and manga fans and enthusiasts can once again enjoy the love for the industry in a convention like no other. Ozine Fest 2018 will give cosplayers and otaku the jolt they need to jumpstart an awesome and geeky summer. Head to SM Megamall on April 28 to 29 to partake in the festivities, which will definitely include special guests, fun activities, and awesome merchandise.


Verdict

If there’s anything April 2018 events and happenings may show us, it’s that there’s always a lot of things to do to improve our love for our respective crafts. Enthusiasts and hobbyists from different fields are hard at work to ensure there are always creative avenues for everyone to show their appreciation and passion for their interests.
