February 2018 Events and Happenings Checklist

When we say February is the season for hearts, it’s not necessarily all about relationships – well, somehow. February 2018 events and happenings are shaping up to expand the love geeks and enthusiasts have for a wide variety of genres, from gaming, to anime, to writing. Our crew from What’s A Geek! has compiled a list of some of the most thrilling events to watch out for this February, and maybe you can catch us there!

February 2018 Events and Happenings

A lot of the events slated for February aren’t for the faint of heart, as it’s bound to burn holes through wallets but are also fit to become worthwhile experiences. If you’re a fan of conventions and conferences, then you’re in luck as there’s a lot to expect this February 2018 in events and happenings on a variety of niches.


Week 1 (Jan. 28 to Feb. 3)

Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel – i.Presage Flower

If you’re a fan of the Fate/stay night series, you’re going to want to see Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel – i.Presage Flower. The screening takes place at SM Megamall cinemas this Feb. 3, and there’s a lot of tickets for moviegoers! Aside from the ticket, you’d get a t-shirt, a special folder, a wrist band, and two posters. The film will take place in one of the other arcs of the Fate/stay night visual novel game, where the player explores the true origins of the Holy Grail and what transpired before the events of the story.

Welcome to the 60s: A Hairspray Sing-along

CatScratch Club will bring you to the amazing era of the 60s at Staple and Perk Cafe in Makati. Welcome to the 60s: A Hairspray Sing-along is the perfect getaway for those who want to get out of the stressful January 2018 blues and just want to have a good time in the company of friends.


Week 1 (Jan. 28 to Feb. 3)

Cosmic Clash Season 2 Episode 1

If you’re into video games, then head over to Cosmic Gorgons Gaming & Art Lounge in Cubao this Feb. 3! Cosmic Clash Season 2 Episode 1 will bring players of Garrison: Archangel competing for mech dominance in a competition like no other. Both new and returning players can enjoy and have fun, so feel free to invite friends to play with you!

Otaku Expo 2018

What’s a year without Otaku Expo 2018? One of the most anticipated anime conventions of the year is headed to SM Megamall this Feb. 3 and Feb. 4. Don your cosplays, get your friends, and appreciate anime with your fellow otaku. Special guests Miu and Shimo will also be there, so don’t miss this opportunity to meet them! Otaku Expo 2018 will have its fair share of art contests, drawing tutorials, its own Battle of the Bands, and even a singing contest!


Week 2 (Feb. 4 to Feb. 10)

Voltes V Run Manila 2018

If you love running and if you’re a Voltes V fan, did you know your two passions can meet? Otaku Events will bring a Voltes V run in McKinley West in Taguig thanks to Voltes V Run Manila 2018. If you come in your best Voltes V costume, you can compete in individual and team categories to even win prizes!

Gamecon Philippines 2018

If you’re a fan for gaming, then you better book Feb. 10 and Feb. 11 as Gamecon PH is bringing another year of Gamecon Philippines 2018. It’s shaping to be a gaming event for all ages, so you might meet a lot of friends and try out a ton of new games along the way! Save the date, and head to Megatrade Halls 2 and 3.


Feb 11 to Feb 17

PWR LIVE: Holding Hands While Wrestling

In Feb. 11, Venue 142 Events Place will not be an “events place” any longer, as it will host perhaps another intense meet-up of rising wrestlers from the Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR). The event asks: have you ever loved and respected someone so much you just want to hold hands? While wrestling? If you’re interested with what’s going to transpire, you’re not alone. You might catch us there!

Storywriting Basics: Story Design

If you’re an aspiring storyteller, then Storywriting Basics: Story Design is the perfect crash course for you. Storywriting School will bring aspiring writers on a 12-hour course that could help them build stories in any medium, form, and genre. The event will take place on Feb. 17 and Feb. 24 at the Love Monday Cafe in Pasig. The event consists of taking participants in three-hour modules tackling accuracy, concreteness, and efficiency; prewriting; writing; and editing.


Feb 18 to Feb 24

2018 Quezon City Animation and I.T. Fair

If you’re a big fan of animation, then you may want to head to the Quezon Memorial Circle’s QCX: Quezon City Experience for the 2018 iteration of the Quezon City Animation and I.T. Fair. This is the third year of the event, which aims to expand the world of digital animation and information technology to aspirants who want to get in these industries. Open lectures and talks, VR and AR experiences, and games are just some things to anticipate in this event.
