#NerdMusicMonday: Porter Robinson & Madeon’s “Shelter”

Welcome to #NerdMusicMonday, where we feature some of the greatest geek-inspired music to start your week on the right note. We also review geek-inspired music things that we see floating around the Internet, for better or worse.

Ever listened to EDM tracks and thought to yourself, “This would be amazing in an anime or video game”? Look no further. Porter Robinson and Madeon – two of the biggest names on the electronic dance music scene – teamed up with A-1 Pictures (producers of series like Sword Art Online, Fairy Tail, Ao no Exorcist and Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai) and Crunchyroll to produce an official, fully animated video for their song “Shelter”.

And it’s not just fully animated: it’s got a story of its own! Here’s the blurb from the YouTube link:

Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17-year-old girl who lives her life inside of a futuristic simulation completely by herself in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. Until one day, everything changes, and Rin comes to learn the true origins behind her life inside a simulation.

I find it really cool that an animated video got put together for a Porter Robinson song. One of the main reasons why he went into the scene was because he’s a huge dork that wants to make music for video games. If you check his stuff out, pretty much every track that he rolls out may leave you with the feeling that it belongs in a soundtrack.

If you enjoyed this song, make sure to check both Porter Robinson and Madeon out sometime! They’re right up there with Zedd for me on my list of “Songs That Ought to Be Part of a Geeky Score”.

If you want to know a little more about the music video’s creation, check out this Behind the Scenes video from Crunchyroll:
