Taeyeon releases her new solo album ‘I’

Ladies and gentlemen, fanboys and fangirls, Heaven has come upon us and granted us a blessing through Kim Taeyeon!

Girls’ Generation’s leader Taeyeon has just released her solo album entitled ‘I – The First Mini-album’. Taeyeon released her album midnight of 7 October and also gave fans with access to the V-App by Naver a commentary per song!

This release is composed of six tracks: I,먼저 말해줘 (Farewell),쌍둥이자리 (Gemini),스트레스 (Stress), U R, and an instrumental version of I.

I (feat. Verbal Jint) is the title track which features Taengoo’s powerful vocals and Verbal Jint’s quick raps. It’s a medium tempo pop song that heavily focuses on Taeyeon’s vocal prowess and wide range. The lyrics talk about a young girl’s hopes and fears for herself and her eventual blooming into a beauty with an amazing life. If this sounds familiar, it’s because Taeyeon co-wrote the lyrics for this song and most of the album and is sort of like a diary about her feelings about the fame and the spotlight. The MV is such a work of beauty, everything is so distinctly Taeyeon! We go with Waitress Taeng working in a restaurant in New Zealand and see her quitting and just going out there to chase her dreams. Special appearances by her brother and the most beautiful butterfly in the world. Also, it’s taking all my strength not to faint at the beauty that is Taengoo, like look at that neck! OMONA~

My personal favorite from this album is U R; Taeyeon says that U R stands for both ‘You Are’ and ‘Under the Rainbow’. It’s a ballad feels-y song reminiscent to Girls’ Generation’s  Time Machine. 스트레스 (Stress) is also a notable mention, it’s an uptempo party song wherein  Taengoo talks about what being an idol in the spotlight does; it’s a welcome break from the ballads in the album. Overall, I would rate this album a 9/10. Definitely one of the best K-Pop albums I have listened too. f(x) Pink Tape still the best!
