Google Play Music now lets you upload up to 50,000 songs for free!

If you’re anything like me, you’re very careful about your phone’s storage space. Of course you can splurge and slap on an SD card on your phone (well, if you’re from the Android Master Race) and fill it up it with music. Or you can upload your entire music library to the cloud and access that one album you never bother to load on your phone but suddenly have an urge to listen to.

Google Play Music has been my cloud storage of choice. I used to swear by iTunes Match, but after months of trying  – and failing – to get iTunes Match to sync and upload that one Tool album, I immediately cancelled my $25/year iTunes Match subscription and opened up a free Google Play Music account. Of course it’s not painless but Google Play Music isn’t terrible. And it made switching to Android much smoother.

I was so happy with GPM’s 25,000 song limit. I have around 8,000 songs in my collection and I don’t think I’ll be able to amass enough songs to fill up that quota. Imagine my surprise when they announced that Google Play Music just doubled their storage limit.

Being able to upload 50,000 songs is fantastic. I’m already pretty happy being able to carry my entire music collection, ready to be downloaded at a moment’s notice if an album isn’t available on Spotify. Now I don’t even have to worry about future-proofing my streaming music set up for a few years. Fantastic work, Google.
