5 New Lenovo AMD Laptops Make A PH Debut!

It wouldn’t be a full year without new, up and coming devices from some of the country’s top tech companies. Surprises this year come courtesy of Lenovo and AMD. This new slate of Lenovo AMD laptops prove such is the case. Lenovo had just unveiled five (5!) more laptops in a press conference earlier today. The new laptops will run on AMD Ryzen processors, and hopes to expand Lenovo’s growing enterprise, commercial, and consumer portfolio.

What’s A Geek! got a first look on some of the new laptops, all of which use AMD’s newest lineup of Ryzen multi-core processors. The aforementioned laptops are

• Yoga 530
• IdeaPad 720S
• IdeaPad 330
• IdeaPad 330S
• IdeaPad 130

The IdeaPad 330 and IdeaPad 330S should be on sale in markets today. Meanwhile, the Yoga 530, IdeaPad 720SS, and the IdeaPad 130 will be arriving mid-December 2018.

Yoga 530

Lenovo’s Yoga 530 touts the company’s signature hinge. This time, the Yoga 530 boasts a 360-hinge that allows the 14-inch convertible laptop to access four (4) modes. Users can utilize the laptop in modes called the stand, tent, tablet, and laptop. Buyers can put up to 512 GB PCIe SSD storage, up to 16 GB DDR 4 RAM, and up to Radeon RX Vega 10 Graphics.

The Yoga 530 can he purchased with a starting price of P34,995

IdeaPad 720S

Lenovo’s IdeaPad 720S appears to be one of the lightest in the market. Weighing only 1.14kg and 13.6mm thin, the IdeaPad 720S packs quite a punch. It possesses 8GB DDR RAM, 512 GB PCIe SSD storage, Radeon Vega Mobile graphics, and AMD Ryzen 7 2700U mobile processor.

The IdeaPad 720S will start at P59,995.

IdeaPad 330

The IdeaPad 330 will be Lenovo’s newest offering for those with tight budgets. However, the laptop appears to still be equipped for our entertainment, study, and work needs. Its 14-inch variant can be equipped up to AMD Stoney Ridge A9-9425 Processor. You can also equip it with up to 8GB DDR memory, and storage up to 2TB SATA HDD. Its 15-inch variant can have up to AMD Ryzen 7 2700U mobile processor with Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics. You can also have it with 16GB DIMM and storage up to 2TB SATA HDD.

UPDATED 2/13/19: The IdeaPad 330 has a new retail price of PHP 47,495.

IdeaPad 330S

If you want a laptop that combines both portability and power, the IdeaPad 330S might be up your alley. The IdeaPad 330S offers 14-inch and 15-inch variants.

• The 14-inch model weighs just 3.7lb and starts at 0.75 inches thin. This variant can support uo to an AMD A9-9425 processor.
• The 15-inch model weighs 4.1lb and starts at 0.76 inches. This variant can have up to an AMD Ryzen 7 2700U Mobile Processor with integrated Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics.
• Both laptops can have up to 8GB memory, 2TB SATA HDD for storage, and AMD Radeon 540 graphics card.

Price for the IdeaPad 330S begins at P30,995.

IdeaPad 130

If you’re looking for a starter laptop, the IdeaPad 130 might be for you. Despite its price, the IdeaPad 130 offers a decent 15.6-inch display with FHD Anti-Glare resolution, and audio courtesy of Dolby Audio. The laptop can have up to an AMD A9-9425 processor, up to AMD Radeon 530 Graphics, up to 8GB DDR4 memory, and up to 1 TB HDD storage. While it’s not part of the Ryzen lineup, Lenovo said the AMD A9-9425 has two CPU cores and three GPU cores capable of handling medium to heavy graphical tasks.

This one might just meet your budget. Price for the IdeaPad 130 starts at 16,995.

Lenovo AMD Laptops: What’s New This Time?

If you’re surprised to see this many releases for Lenovo, you’re not alone. Apparently, this kind of release is a Lenovo first.

Alvin Go of Lenovo talked more about the laptops. “This is the first time we’re getting as big a variety of products that we’re offering to the public,” he said. Part of this may be due to Lenovo’s push for “different is better.” Go said this will be something they want the laptops and their new releases to have. AMD’s new releases helped make Lenovo do this push with their new laptops.

AMD had released its new set of Ryzen processors last year, this time boasting multi-core setups. Lenovo explained having multiple cores allow Ryzen to deliver high performance on intensive tasks such as CAD work, streaming and gaming, 3D rendering, and digital content creation.

Additionally, the inclusion of simultaneous multithreading (SMT) allows the processors to work on various instructions at the same time. SMT allows the cores to be split into virtual cores called “threads” that makes the process possible.

“AMD’s newest processors are getting a lot of praise due to their powerful performance, especially when it comes to running multiple tasks, heavy programs included,” Michael Ngan, Lenovo Philippines’s Country General Manager said. “We partnered with AMD to provide Filipinos such cutting-edge technology equipped to support the ever-growing performance demands of the market.”

This new technology apparently helps enable the laptops to deliver cutting-edge performance at quite the affordable price.

AMD and Lenovo: Freedom of Choice Meets Different is Better

Tech enthusiasts might be interested to learn that AMD and Lenovo have been in a partnership for quite a while now. It’s just now that they’ve started making a more prominent push to release more products in the market.

“The partnership has been there ever since. We see the future with AMD,” Ngan said.

“[Lenovo is] a multi-cultural company, and they bring a level of creativity in the marketplace from a global perspective,” AMD’s Dustin Beadle added on the AMD-Lenovo partnership.

If anything, the partnership seems to be in line in both companies’ respective visions.

Beadle said AMD plans to redefine high performance computing courtesy of Ryzen, Radeon, Eypc, and Radeon Instinct.
AMD products have begun to penentrate various aspects of the market, boasting what they call freedom of choice. The company now offers a variety of commercial, consumer, and mini processors to meet this desire.

According to him, AMD’s newer Ryzen processors with Radeon Graphics combines its Zen and Vega cores.

The “switch” to AMD might boggle some tech enthusiasts as wlel. After all, Lenovo has been known to provide Intel-based products.

“Having multiple options is a great thing. It’s a good thing to have a variety of products for consumers,” Beadle said. “We want to deliver more cost-effective solutions, [and] we can help make your everyday life more productive.”
