Ian McShane, Emily Browning added to ‘American Gods’ Roster

The American Gods casting train just keeps on chugging. Last time, we reported that Starz cast Ricky Whittle as the main protagonist Shadow Moon.

Now, we got it off Neil Gaiman’s feed that we finally have our Laura Moon, too. Emily Browning of A Series of Unfortunate Events fame had bagged the role. She will play Shadow Moon’s wife, and has a lot in store for her when the new and old gods wage war. Miss Brown’s other credits include Sucker Punch, Pompeii, Magic Magic, and Ned Kelly.

“I’ve been fascinated by Emily Browning since A Series of Unfortunate Events. She has a challenge ahead of her: Laura is a tricky character, and the Laura on the screen is even trickier and more dangerous than the one on the page. She’s going to have a wonderful time bringing Laura to life.”

This news just comes in the heels of Ian McShane (Deadwood, Game of Thrones, The Pillars of the Earth, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) being cast as Mr. Wednesday, who previously mentioned in our last article is Odin in disguise.

In particular, Gaiman is chuffed for his casting, stating:

“When you write a beloved character (beloved with, or despite, or because of all his faults) like Mr. Wednesday, you get to watch the Internet trying to cast the role. I’ve seen a hundred names suggested, but few make me grin like Ian McShane does. I’ve already been lucky enough to have him in one film (he was bright blue in it, animated, and probably Polish). Now I count myself even luckier: he’s made the journey from Lovejoy to American Gods. Yesterday was Super Tuesday. Today is Wonderful Wednesday.”

With each casting announced, we here at What’s A Geek are getting more and more excited. They’ve been revealing fantastic actors filling in big shoes, and everything feels like it is falling into place. I can’t wait for this show to premiere!
