Melissa Benoist is Rocking the Supergirl Costume for New TV Series

Melissa Benoist (Whiplash) is seen in her Supergirl costume for the upcoming CBS TV Series of the same name.

For the uninitiated, Supergirl is Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El. She’s gone through several iterations through the decades including having her origins traced to the “Bottle City of Kandor” and even at once being romantically involved with a very hairy Lex Luthor.

Meanwhile Benoist was first seen in “Glee” before starring opposite Miles Teller in Academy Award nominated film “Whiplash”.

Other casts include Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw. The biggest casting mystery though are the roles for the original Supergirl Helen Slater and former Superman Dean Cain.

The costume was done by three-time Academy Award winner Colleen Atwood who also designed the costumes we see in “Arrow” and “The Flash”.

“In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past,” says Atwood, “but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today.”
