June 2018 Events And Happenings Calendar – What’s A Geek!

It might be a rainy June, but the weather can’t stop our geeky hearts from having a fun 2018! It’s just halfway across the year, and there are already so much stufff to expect from June 2018 events and happenings. Tutorials, events, and conventions will be surprising geeks left and right this month. However, perhaps much more exciting is that we’re just seeing events in June. We totally forget sometimes that there’s still six (6) months more to go! Here’s the What’s A Geek! team reporting these June 2018 events and happenings.

June 2018 Events and Happenings

Events this month range from conventions and gatherings to all-out fun, ranging across all hobbies. Fans, collectors, and even casuals will love this month’s lineup due to the flexibility of events. To top it all off, all of these are just halfway through the year. What exactly is in store for us?

Week 1 (June 3 to June 9)

UP AME Talk Series: Shakespeare in Anime and Manga (June 2)

Who said Shakespeare can only be found in Western literature? UP’s Anime Manga Enthusiasts’ talk series (UP AME Talk Series) continues with Shakespeare in Anime and Manga. The event will have noted literary figures and professors in Japan come to talk about the influence of Shakespeare in modern literature, particularly in anime and manga. Prof. Ryuta Minami (Tokyo Keizai University), Prof. Yukari Yoshihara (University of Tsukuba), and Ms. Harumo Sanazaki (a mangaka) will be arriving for the discussion. Moreover, Sanazaki’s Hamlet will also have an exclusive screening in the event! Come to the Engineering Theater in UP Diliman’s Melchor Hall this June 2!

Back 2 Back RMU’s 10th Gathering (June 2)

If you’re a fan of running, then Running Man United’s 10th Gathering will be for you. This will be the tenth iteration of the Back 2 Back RMU event, where almost 200 people will be running against each other in this awesome team event!

GUNDAMentals: Gunpla Detailing Basics (June 2)

Builtable Coworking hosts GUNDAMentals: Gunpla Detailing Basics this June 2. Folks interested in Gundam or those who love Gunpla should head to the HI CBC Corporate Center in Shaw Boulevard on June 2 to get a taste of just how professionals do it when it comes to creating their own Gunpla. After all, if you’ve recently gotten into Gundam Build Divers like us, now’s just as good a time as any to start your Gunpla journey.

NCP: Photoshoot for a Cause (June 3)

Folks from the National Cosplayers of the Philippines will hold its annual Photoshoot for a Cause this June 3 at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. If you’re a fan of cosplaying and photography, now’s the time to take advantage of UST’s scenic environment to pull off those awesome stunts. Moreover, did we share that entrance fees come in the form of school supplies? That’s right, folks who participate and donate school supplies would be glad to know that their donations will be given to various NCP target communities.

TOYCON Poplife Fanexperience 2018 (June 8)

Fans of anime and manga should consider adding TOYCON Poplife Fanexperience 2018 to their list of must-attends this month. In the spirit of the annual TOYCON tradition, fans who attend Poplife Fanexperience will have a one-of-a-kind fan experience. Folks should head to the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City to mingle with fans, cosplayers, international guests, and even celebrities!

Week 2 (June 10 to June 16)

Personal Financial Planning Workshop (June 15)

We know this year has got so much going on that wallets will be busting left and right – just look at this events list! However, MPM Consulting Services Inc. has got our back thanks to their Personal Financial Planning Workshop. The event will be extremely helpful to students, fresh graduates, young professionals, and those struggling to manage their personal incomes. According to the event page, speakers will be teaching things such as financial goal-setting, identifying one’s financial status, financial plan creation, and types of investment.

PlayGround Monthly RageFest (June 10)

If you want to test your fighting game skills, then head to PlayGround Hobby Cafe in the LOL Building in Quezon City. Fire up your June 23 with games such as Tekken and Street Fighter as you battle it out with others in a quest for monthly dominance!

Marvel VS DC: MvCi & Injustice 2 Monthly Back to BackTournament (June 16)

Think the Monthly RageFest isn’t for you? Then perhaps Marvel VS DC: MvCi & Injustice 2 Monthly Back to Back Tournament will be for you! Games such as Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite and Injustice 2: Gods Among Us will be waiting for fighting game enthusiasts.

Week 3 (June 17 to June 23)

DC Superheroes Cafe Opening (June 23)

Fans of DC comics should rejoice as the first DC Superheroes Cafe will open this June 23 in SM Megamall! There aren’t much details about what the cafe entails and what its features are, but folks say it’s definitely not the Batcave. Then again, that’s what Batman would want you to think.

Kidlat Revisited (June 23)

Ateneo Art Gallery presents Kidlat Revisited: Free Public Screenings of Kidlat Tahimik Films at the Ateneo de Manila University this June 13. The screenings have been happening since April 25, and it seems like the spread of Filipino culture will not be stopping any time soon.

2018 Global Taste of Korea (June 23)

If you’re into Korean cuisine, then you better head to Taguig’s Mancor Corporate Center this June 23! 2018 Global Taste of Korea will be teaching attendees the rudimentary requirements of cooking genuine and authentic Korean food. Those into Korean food better prepare their pans and showcase their cooking skills as June 23 will definitely be quite the exciting time to be a fan of food.

Y.A. Fiction Writing Workshop (June 23)

Reb Fiction and Precious Pages Corp. will be bringing folks the Y.A. Fiction Writing Workshop at Precious Pages Corp. in Quezon City this June 23. This will be perfect for everyone interested in learning how to write young adult novels. However, while attendance is free, only qualified applicants can join the event! Folks interested better download the form in the event link!

Verdict: Summer Is Just Starting With June 2018 Events

It’s literally halfway through 2018, and if there’s anything June 2018 events and happenings would tell us, it’s that summer’s just starting!
