Some of you guys might recall the, ah. interesting discussions that floated around after this happened on the Internet late last year, due to a lovely Photoshopped image that popped up on Facebook. Some of us dared to hope.
We called, and according to our friends in the Game Developer’s Association of the Philippines, Ubisoft has answered.
As seen in the image above, Assassin’s Creed: Rebellion is slated for release on June 12, 2016. In light of a few recent “hurrah, Philippines!” moments in today’s video game scene (see also: Josie Rizal, a new challenger for Tekken 7), this is wonderful news. What makes it even better is that it does, indeed, show us that some game developers do pay attention, and are on the market for fresh ideas. As things stand, the production team for the franchise admitted that they’ve been eyeing our country as a viable setting for the game since this video came out, and the enthusiasm we displayed over a possible AC game that walks us through our own history just sealed the deal. “It really caught our attention,” Corey May, AC’s lead screenwriter and producer told us in a phone interview. “We wanted to know more about the country that was behind that whole story, so we did a little research. Then that speculative image came out, and one thing just led to another.”
Everything’s up in the air for the moment, but what we DO know is that the Assassin’s Creed team from Ubisoft will be teaming up with some of our local developers to put the game together. The game will be set in Taal, Batangas, a city that played a huge but often overlooked role in the history of the Philippine Revolution. Composers Jesper Kyd, Lorne Balfe and Brian Tyler will be teaming up with the Philharmonics Orchestra to make the soundtrack, and it’s rumored that our very own songbird and gamer Lea Salonga will be providing the vocals for AC: Rebellion’s main theme. We tried to press (gently) for a few more details, but… here you have it.
How this is going to connect to the rest of the Assassin’s Creed universe, you ask? We’ll find out for ourselves soon enough!
