ICYMI: Disney Infinity 3.0 Launches Soon

This coming September 1, 2015, Southeast Asia will be releasing the much-awaited updated to the popular hybrid toy/video game, Disney Infinity 3.0 – Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic.

Darth Vader Disney 3.0 Figure, sold separately

I admit, I’m a huge Star Wars fan; I probably inherited it from my dad, who watched Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope in the cinemas when he was a kid. When he brought home an exclusive VHS box set– yes, a VHS box set!–I remember screaming with joy and excitement. The box set is gathering dust, but it definitely knows what love is.

And now that we’re in the digital age, and there’s an upcoming seventh installment in the Star Wars franchise (EU, I will miss you dearly), Disney is giving is something really, really amazing: Disney Infinity 3.0, Star Wars Edition.

I am so. Very. Excited for this game.

Yoda Disney 3.0 Figure, sold separately

Disney Infinity 3.0 is, obviously, the third installment in the franchise. It combines every series in the Disney franchise and, just like Andy’s toy box, lets you play in an open world (Toy Box mode), or through the characters’ stories (Play Set mode). 3.0’s starter set features none other than characters from its currently most popular series at the moment, Star Wars‘ Anakin Skywalker and his padawan Ahsoka Tano (who, let me just say, is KICKASS). If you don’t know who Ahsoka is, then you should be watching the Clone Wars animated series.

The first Play Set is Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic. It follows an original story featuring Anakin and Ahsoka, set in the Clone Wars animated series and the Prequel Movies. Yes, you can play as either Anakin, or Ahsoka, and you can use the Force, and there will DEFINITELY be Lightsaber battles.

Another Star Wars Play Set will be available in the near future, and this time, it will feature Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa. Star Wars: Rise Against the Empire will follow the story of the original trilogy, and I’m really just looking forward to the Battle at Hoth. I can’t wait to take down AT-ATs!

These Inside Out Disney 3.0 Figures will be available at a later date

Of course, Disney Infinity 3.0 doesn’t just stop there. Other play sets will include a Disney Pixar Play Set featuring characters from their latest box office hit, Inside Out, as well as a Marvel Play Set featuring the Hulkbuster and Ultron. Finally, there will also be a Play Set based on the upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Look at all these toys!!!

So what other Star Wars figures can you use in 3.0 aside from Anakin, Ahsoka, Luke, and Leia? A LOT. Sold separately, you can get Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Maul, and Darth Vader. You can also get Star Wars: Rebels characters, Ezra Miller, Kanan Jarrus, Sabine Wren, and Zeb Orrelios.

What should we expect from Disney Infinity 3.0?

A whole damn lot. Aside from the Star Wars experience, we also get two new multiplayer Toy Box Games: Toy Box Takeover, and Toy Box Speedway.

Toy Box Takeover is a minigame experience where Syndrome steals the magic wand you use in the Toy Box and takes over your world. You can team up with other characters and players to get it back!

Jason Moffitt, Producer of Disney Infinity, holding his favorite characters, Ahsoka and Ultron

The other Toy Box game, Toy Box Speedway is a kart racing game– yes, 3.0 has a Mario Kart game mode. Jason Moffitt, Disney Infinity’s Producer even jokingly says, as he’s holding the Disney Infinity 3.0 figure of Ultron, “If your game gets compared to Mario Kart, then you know you’ve made it.”

I was able to play Toy Box Speedway, and it’s totally like Mario Kart. Which I suck at. To be fair, I tried really hard to win. I was first place on my game, but my time was at 1:24, which… was too long to win myself a WiiU and the starter set for Disney Infinity 1.0 and 3.0. I’m bummed, but at least I got myself a Sabine 3.0 figure as consolation. Still need the game to play her though, but we’ll get it soon.

Look at Ahsoka go!

It’s a good thing that we’re on the side of the world that gets sunlight first, because we’re getting Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic on the 1st of September, unlike the US where they get it on the 31st of August. It’s technically the same day anyway, if you think about it.

Maybe we’ll see Civil War in Infinity 3.0?

Retailing at PHP2,999, the starter pack will contain the Disney Infinity 3.0 base game, the Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic play set, figures of Anakin Skywalker and his padawan, Ahsoka Tano, the Disney Infinity 3.0 base you put your figures on, and a Web Code card that will unlock content for the PC and mobile.
