Tokyo Game Show 2017: PlayStation Press Conference Highlights

Tokyo Game Show 2017: PlayStation Press Conference

Tokyo Game Show 2017 has given us some amazing things to look forward to, and Sony Interactive Entertainment wasn’t an exception. Here are some of the most exciting highlights that makes the PlayStation faithful eager for more!

Final Fantasy IX

Square Enix really enjoys sharing its classic content. However, Final Fantasy IX is a special case, as the last entry of the Playstation One era. It is still a celebrated game that was a wonderful callback to the Final Fantasys of old. The HD remake comes with new additional features including trophies, game boosters, autosaves, and more! The Digital Edition includes a original custom theme designed by Toshiyuki Itahana and eight key character avatars.

Left Alive

Monster Hunter World

Not much is known about Left Alive. It’s developed by Square Enix and character designs are by famous Metal Gear illustrator Yoji Shinkawa. Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto is producing the game and Toshifumi Nabeshima of Armored Cored fameis directing. Perhaps, it’s a mech game in a blasted war-torn future. It is scheduled to be released in Japan with no word on an international release.

Monster Hunter World is coming to the Playstation 4 much sooner than anyone expected. Worldwide release date is pegged at January 26, 2018. The story trailer fleshes out the current home city of the game: Astera. It is also the heart of the Research Commission, what seems to be the central monster hunting authority and led by a very Ahab looking fellow. Several new monsters are present from the fluffy to the scaly, such as the Monster Hunter World flagship monster – the Nergigante. The felynes now ride their own mounts!! They are readying digital and collector’s version of the game as well as sweet looking PlayStation 4 Pro edition of the game.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was previously announced back in Tokyo Game Show 2015. The Atlus and Vanillaware collaboration was once again shown. It was helmed by director George Kamitani of Odin Sphere and Dragon’s Crown fame. The game followed a similar art style to the previous game, with a more muted tone. The trailer featured each of students the player will follow through this strange world. Also, the students rode giant mechs. An English localization was previously confirmed and the game will first release in Japan on 2018.

Fist of the North Star

Yakuza Studios, makers of the Yakuza series, brings the cult classic Hokuto ga Gotoku to the PlayStation 4. Also known as Fist of the North Star, there is a lot of intense action that captures the intensity of the original series. Bonus fact, it turns out Kenshiro is quite the mean bartender. The game will release on PlayStation 4 on February 22 in Japan.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

A new story narrates Cosmos’ reason for summoning the heroes of Final Fantasy. It is a particularly dubious one, as Lightning points out. The gameplay portion showcases more of the 3v3 combat, including what appears to be a solo battle against summons. The trailer portrays Squall fighting a version of Ifrit. Lastly, Final Fantasy XV’s Noctis joins the fray!

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS

Konami pulls out one the creations of Hideo Kojima for a new audience. Players can now experience what it’s like to pilot the Jehuty on PSVR. The game returns with new tweaks like 4K resolution.

Gungrave

Gungrave is a blast from the deep past. Originally on the PS2, Playstation brings the intense gunplay into the modern era. The game releases on PS VR first, then onto other virtual reality devices like Vive and Occulus.

There were plenty of other games announced at the Playstation Press Conference. Watch the entire show below!
