With 151 Pokémon in the Pokédex, Twitch Plays Pokémon Finally Caught ‘Em All

When you put together a bunch of people in a chat room and make them play a game with no way of coordinating with each other, you get chaos. Beautiful, beautiful chaos. And this is what happened with Twitch Plays Pokémon, where we get people issue conflicting commands over and over again and the game has no choice but to follow. How people get to accomplish something is a mystery by itself, but it makes for damn good streaming material.

Let’s get something straight here: I put a lot of hours into the original Pokémon Red back in the day. I never came close to collecting all 151 original Pokémon. But somehow, a bunch of players, with no coordination whatsoever managed to achieve what most players couldn’t even dream of.

To be fair, Twitch Plays Pokémon played a modified version of Pokémon Red where the only way to beat the game is to capture all 151 Pokémon and you can catch them all without trading. But it doesn’t take away anything from this achievement. Catching Mewtwo is hard enough. Catching Mewtwo while everybody else is trying to do the opposite of what you want to do is a superhuman feat.
