Nobody said that it can be done, but Bruce Timm and Paul Dini are working together right now to create an animated adaptation of Grant Morrison’s rambling, borderline insane ode to hallucinogenic drugs Jack Kirby’s Fourth World, Final Crisis.
“We feel that animation is the perfect medium to adapt Final Crisis,” says Timm. “Grant Morrison’s comic is insanely dense and multi-layered, and we feel that animation can correctly portray Darkseid wearing jeans or Superman killing Darkseid with singing.”
Paul Dini outlined his plans for this epic movie by saying “we plan to do this in two parts: one focusing on the main storyline, and another movie dedicated to what I feel is the best part of Final Crisis: Countdown. That countdown was masterful. It really raised the stakes and made you feel the full weight of what was going to change at DC.”
The adaptation of Final Crisis is meant to replace the current status quo of the DC Animated Universe first established in the movie Flashpoint Crisis. Both parts will be released straight to video and Netflix one year from now, April 1, 2018.
