Live-Action Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Coming Soon!

This just in! Futabasha Publishers Ltd. has formally signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to allow the international studio the rights to produce a live-action Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid!

Cool-kyou Shinja’s has wholeheartedly expressed his excitement that the manga he has worked hard on since 2013 has found international success as an anime. Now, in a recent interview he said:

I’m very excited to see how the live-action Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid will come out, especially with the help of 20th Century Fox who has had great success with turning anime into live-action features. While I signed and agreed with the contract I will be giving minimal direction on their casting decisions. Please give 100% of your support to the live-action feature of the show!

20th Century Fox has not released any details if the live-action feature will be produced as a TV series or as a feature movie; they’re still waiting on results of the market research being held over the globe flat earth. What has been released are the actors and idols who will play our beloved dragons and Kobayashi-san. The FOX team has scouted different actors and actresses from all over the world to promote diversity in the casting and making it easier for the international audience (who might encounter this masterpiece slice-of-life comedy) to process and digest!

Let’s take a look at their casting decisions below!

Kobayashi

Ellen Page as Kobayashi-san

The Canadian actress, Ellen Page, will be the titular character of the live-action feature. Known for her captivating perfomances in Hard Candy, Juno, and Inception. We can expect her to bring the drunkard otaku computer programmer with dead eyes to the silver (?) screen! I’m personally excited on how Ellen Page will act as Kobayashi-san when genderbent because .. y’know. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Tohru

Lili Reinhart as Tohru

Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart plays another lovable blonde (who might be a murderer?) this time as Tohru! Wondering how Lili’s acting chops would hold out as the Chaos Faction’s dragon, will she be able to really bring out the cuteness of the dragon lady!

Kanna

Oh My Girl’s maknae Arin as Kanna

First things first: DO NOT LEWD THE DRAGON LOLI

Now, Oh My Girl’s Arin is just the perfect person to play Kanna! It’s like Kanna was even modeled after her! I literally will throw money to make this live-action thing move faster. Arin hasn’t had a lot of acting experience but I’m sure 20th Century Fox have scouted her to be the best fit for this role.

Elma

Summer Glau as Elma

Summer Glau of Arrow and Firefly fame adds another franchise to her nerd roster. It won’t be surprising to find Elma gaining a following of fans after Summer’s performance here.

Lucoa

Kat Dennings as Lucoa

Alright, this is the best casting decision ever made by 20th Century Fox. Kat Dennings’ snarky sassy humor will definitely bring Quetzalcotl’s goofiness to life!

What do you think about the casting decisions? Are you as excited as I am for the live-action Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid? Got anything constructive and not mean to say? Leave us a comment or tweet us!
