Walt Disney Corporation Chariman and CEO Bob Iger has just made a massive announcement at D23 Expo 2015! He confirmed long-rumored plans for a Star Wars-themed land to be built in both Disneyland AND Disney World!
This will be Disney’s most massive single-themed addition to their parks, with each one measuring 14-acres in total area. Visitors will get to visit a never-before-seen planet and a remote spaceport before “wild space” while interacting with Star Wars characters. Two of the most hotly-anticipated attractions include a ride where you get to take control of the Millennium Falcon, and an adventure that pits you in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger. “Through each new attraction and new land we create, we push the boundaries of what is possible. And as you can imagine, with Star Wars, we are taking that to a whole new level, with a whole galaxy to explore.”
Disney Parks and Resorts isn’t a stranger to ambitious sci-fi themed projects like this. The media conglomerate is, after all, building an Avatar themed world called “Pandora: The World of Avatar” in Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park located in Orlando, Florida. That project is due to open in 2017 to visitors.
