First ‘Wonder Woman’ Footage Assures us That Wonder Woman is in Her Own Movie

With every depressing bit of footage coming from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I’ve always clung to a few good things that will be coming out of that potential mess of a film – we’d get a great Batman in Ben Affleck and that Wonder Woman will be finally portrayed as a badass heroine that she is. However, portraying Wonder Woman on the screen is tricky – she’s not as well-defined as Batman, her history (especially after the New 52) is a bit muddled, and DC can’t even settle on a good costume for her. Not to be pessimistic, but that makes me worry a lot about how they’ll interpret her.

However, the first footage out of Wonder Woman is out, and even though I can’t get over the fact that Kevin Smith is wearing a backwards baseball cap with a blazer, I can consider some of my fears about this movie assuaged. Don’t take my word for it, watch the video below:

Truth be told, nothing much happens in the video, but I’m still excited. There’s Kevin Smith and his cap, and we see Wonder Woman in civilian attire, and on horseback, beating the crap out of some generic soldiers, and not much more. There’s also Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, and nothing else. There’s also an interesting change in Wonder Woman’s origin from World War II to World War I, and aside from making it more visually interesting, I don’t think it’s going to affect her backstory much.

This very brief glimpse we’ve seen of Wonder Woman makes me very confident that Gal Gadot is going to kill it as the titular character, and that they’re actually taking the DC universe in the right direction…

Well, except for depressing grimdark Superman.

And Joker.
