Due to the overwhelmingly negative response to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Brothers, in a surprising move, has cancelled the highly-anticipated Justice League. Citing a petition to boot Zack Snyder off of Justice League, a Warner Brothers spokesperson who refused to be identified explained to What’s A Geek that the disgraced director not only made a movie so incomprehensible, but he also created a universe seeped in pessimism and negativity that not even the most dedicated scriptwriters can salvage it. The backlash to the dark and edgy movie has cost Warner Brothers by way of a record-breaking second weekend box office drop off that even beat the Fantastic Four reboot.
We don’t blame Warner Brothers. Money talks in Hollywood, and now that the negative backlash has actually started to affect their bottom line, it was just a matter of time before they realized their mistake. The unnamed source also mentioned that the negative reviews forced Warner Brothers to spend millions of dollars to reshoot Suicide Squad to make it less grim and more palatable to mainstream audiences, which can only mean good things.
However, with Justice League parts 1 and 2 put in the back burner for now, we don’t know what that means for the future of the DC Cinematic Universe after Wonder Woman (probably the only DC movie this writer is actually excited to see). Will we see a reboot of the universe? Will a capable director (JJ Abrams? David Fincher? Uwe Boll?) take over the superhero team movie? Will DC finally stop trying to cram in pretentious crap into their movies?
What about you? What do you feel about Warner Brothers cancelling Justice League? Are you sighing with relief or are you mad at the critics? Leave a comment and tell us your thoughts!
