Walt Disney Animation Studios has just shared new details about their upcoming movie Moana over at the D23 Expo at Anaheim, California.
Directors John Musker and Ron Clements, both famous for Aladdin and The Princess and the Frog were on hand at the Disney Animation panel along with producer Osnat Shurer, where they showed a few things that would be happening in Moana. According to them, Moana will explain why the great South Pacific people stopped navigating the seas 3,000 years ago.
Some of the film’s characters have been revealed as well. Aside from the titular character Moana, the movie will also have her father (and Chief) Tui. There will also be a tattooed Demigod named Maui that can shapeshift, and has the power to create islands by pulling them from the sea with a giant fishhook. Maui will be voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was also on-hand as a guest.
The directors also mentioned that the Pacific Ocean is a character in itself and is in fact, Moana’s best friend.
Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be handling the musical chores for the film, with Opetaia performing a song from the movie with his musical group, Te Vaka.
Moana is currently slated for a November 23, 2016 US release. No updates yet when the new Disney animated will be released in the Philippines, but we’ll keep you posted!
