#NerdMusicMonday: Champion Sound by iLL Factor

Welcome to #NerdMusicMonday, where we feature some of the greatest geek-inspired music to start your week on the right note. We also review geek-inspired music things that we see floating around the Internet, for better or worse.

So some of you must have been wondering, given all of my previous articles and that long-ass review that I did for the game, if the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate geekery is ever gonna end from me. Spoilers: probably not, and for a damned good reason.

Champion Sound is an EP produced by Ivan Corraliza, otherwise known as DJ iLL Factor. He’s been producing music for fifteen years and counting, and is actually the expert behind some of the biggest artists and albums in the music industry. “Champion Sound”, the song that the EP was named for, was used in the debut trailer for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate last year.

I discovered the existence of the EP completely by accident (thanks for that, Spotify!). The whole thing is up for grabs on iTunes and Spotify, which I’ve linked to below.

The EP’s great for fans of rap and the heavier end of electronic music, and serves as a great contemporary counterbalance to the official soundtrack of the game. The lyrics in some of the tracks allude to locations and/or people in ACS, and seem to be an attempt at solidifying the voice of the Frye Twins through music. I’ve always believed that the best soundtracks are the ones that understand the essence of its source material. “Champion Sound” certainly wins in that direction for me.

That said, you actually don’t have to be a fan of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to appreciate it either because the music is that good. I was reminded of artists like the Glitch Mob, Fatboy Slim, and the Chemical Brothers while I was going through the tracks. My personal favorite (beyond “Champion Sound” itself, of course), is “Dyers Evie”, featuring Melody Noe.

Fans and music lovers alike should definitely check “Champion Sound” out. Here’s hoping that iLL Factor signs on for more video game soundtracks in the future!
