New Japan Pro Wrestling’s New Japan Cup Round 2 happened last weekend, and we have the results! Let’s see who will go on to the semis.
Singles Match: YOSHI-HASHI def. Jay White Special Tag Match: Satsohi Kojima, Tiger Mask, Manabu Nakanishi, Ryusuke Taguchi, Mascara Dorada def. Captain New Japan, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Jushin Thunder Liger, Tomoaki Honma, KUSHIDA Special Tag Match: Yohei Komatsu and Hiroshi Tanahashi def. Sho Tanaka and Yuji Nagata Special Tag Match: CHAOS (Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuhicka Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, Kazushi Sakuraba) def. Bullet Club (Cody Hall, Tama Tonga, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson) Tournament Match: Togi Makabe def. Yujiro Takahashi (Prediction counter: 1-0) Tournament Match: Kota Ibushi def. Toru Yano (Prediction counter: 2-0) Tournament Match: Tetsuya Naito def. Bad Luck Fale (Prediction counter: 3-0) Tournament Match: Hirooki Goto def. Katsuyori Shibata (Prediction counter: 3-1) |
The tournament winners went on as expected, although this tournament continues Shibata’s struggles of reaching the top. Here’s how the brackets are looking after the prelims:
The Ibushi vs Naito match should prove to be fun, and Makabe vs Goto will likely be the slobberknocker. If Ibushi goes on to win the NJCup, expect the rematch with Nakamura to happen. If Naito wins it, however, expect him to go after AJ Styles and the IWGP Heavyweight belt. If Makabe wins, expect the rematch with Ishii for the NEVER title. I honestly think Goto will have a very low chance of winning the Cup this year.
Here is the rest of the card for the final day of the New Japan Cup, scheduled to happen on March 15th:
Parting shots: Things are heating up between Kojima and Tenzan in preparation of their NWA title match… Cody Hall is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall (aka Razor Ramon)… March 15th seems to be a huge day for Japanese Pro Wrestling in particular as Pro Wrestling NOAH will be holding their Great Voyage 2015 event in Tokyo, spearheaded by the highly-anticipated GHC Heavyweight title match between current champ Naomichi Marufuji and Suzuki-gun leader Minoru Suzuki.
