USA Today gives us our first look at Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin aka Wilson Fisk for Marvel Studios and Netflix’s Daredevil.
Reports suggest that this version of the Kingpin will be different than the Kingpin of the Marvel Comics Universe. Much like how Fisk worked together with Daredevil during Brian Michael Bendis’ run on Daredevil, this new big man will share similar goals with Daredevil i.e. wanting to clean up New York City. The methods however will differ from that of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). The series will be as much an origin story for Fisk as it is for Matt Murdock.
Despite the differences, D’Onofrio has been studying up on the character’s comic book appearances in order to get a feel for the character. He also shaved his head and added some weight to match the character’s look.
“I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it’s a major punch,” D’Onofrio says. “There’s a lot of weight behind it.”
