Sony just had their pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, and despite not being as good as last year’s, it still delivered the goods. Here’s the five things that really stood out for me.
1. SNK PLAYMORE OUTTA NOWHERE!!!
In a short (and awful) clip after SEGA’s presentation SNK PLAYMORE appeared with the announcement of The King of Fighters XIV, due for 2016. This is the first time we heard anything from SNKP since being bought by a Chinese corporation. With the earlier reveal of Guilty Gear XRD Revelator‘s console release, 2016 is arguably the FGC’s dream year.
2. KOEI TECMO MEANS BUSINESS
Koei Tecmo’s recent successful partnerships surely gave KT the confidence that they needed, revealing the upcoming titles Toukiden 2 and Ni-oh. Toukiden sure is shaping to be the one to aggressively pursue the Monster Hunter demographic in the PS4 era and they might just be able to do it.
3. EVEN SONY IS PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE FOR THE VITA
This week, Sony will be releasing new Vita colors in Japan. At the start of the presscon, the sequel to one of the platform’s best titles, Gravity Daze (aka Rush), got announced exclusively for the PS4. But later in the show, a slew of great IPs got announced for the Vita, including Gundam Extreme VS Force and SaGa Scarlet Graces. I just don’t know anymore.
4. NO KONAMI, NO KOJIMA
One would’ve thought that the recent release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was even worthy of at least a mention but man this is just surprising.
5. NO PERSONA 5, NO STREET FIGHTER V, NO TEKKEN 7, NO FINAL FANTASY XV, NO SWORD ART ONLINE BUT WE HEY WE GOT A NEW YAKUZA GAME!
Well at least not here. Atlus will be having their 40-hr stream in the following days, Square will be having an Active Time Report stream too so the Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV news could come there. There will also be special stage events for Capcom and Bandai Namco so new info should come there. SEGA surely didn’t pass on the opportunity to announce the next Yakuza game, which certainly upped the interest levels of fans.
Just like last year, the Sony Pre-TGS Presscon successfully started the TGS hype train with this event. The next few days should be definitely interesting so let’s all ride the hype train!
