RWBY: Grimm Eclipse now on Steam

The man who made epic fan video series Dead Fantasy went on to create the popular Rooster Teeth series RWBY. Monty Oum’s award-winning viral hit spawned a fan-made video game called RWBY: Grim Eclipse in 2014, created by Jordan Scott.

The demo was released for free on Rooster Teeth’s anniversary, and at Rooster Teeth Expo 2014, the company announced that they’d hired Scott, and officially picked up the game. The game was re-stylized as Grimm Eclipse to match the spelling of the enemy creatures in the series.

The game was added to Steam’s Greenlight program on October 15, 2015 – and was successfully greenlit after just two days. The game is now available on early access via Steam. Here’s a look at the Steam Early Access trailer:

RWBY: Grimm Eclipse is a 4 player co-op hack-n’-slash survival style game set in very familiar areas in Remnant, along with a few locations that fans of the series have yet to see. The game’s story is unique to it, and adds new varieties of Grimm, along with a new villain.

We’ll get to step into the shoes of any members of Team RWBY: from high-speed reaper Ruby Rose, cool fencer Weiss Schnee, the ninja-like Blake Belladonna, and fiery brawler Yang Xiao-Long. Each character offers different play styles and abilities.

The game takes inspiration from titles like Samurai Warriors and Left 4 Dead, sending wave after wave of Grimm at you. The battle pace will be hectic, and you’ll be able to unlock abilities on the fly – in a similar style to MOBAs. You can play solo, or online with three other friends at your side. Also, you can play as whichever character you like in co-op, with multiple versions of each character by way of color palette swaps. No word yet on whether or not you’ll be able to access the girls’ alternate outfits from the show.

The game’s page boasts a ton of unlocks, rewards, and achievements – with possibly more on the way. As the game is still in early access, players may experience a few bugs, which can be reported to allow for further improvements.

RWBY: Grimm Eclipse is now available on Steam for PHP419. For more updates, you can also visit the game’s website, and stay tuned to What’s A Geek when we review the game in its awesomeness.
