Tales To Astonish and “Redeem Yourself”

In the movie Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross opens his product demo by talking about the legendary Ant-Man adding in the terms like “Tales to Astonish” and “Redeem Yourself”. Both of which refer to Ant-Man’s comic book appearances namely Tales to Astonish # 35 (first appearance of Hank Pym in his Ant-Man costume) and Irredeeemable Ant-Man # 1 (featuring third Ant-Man, Eric O’Grady)

Agent Carter/ Peggy Carter

In the opening scenes for Ant-Man we see a young Basic Instinct era Michael Douglas confronting what looks to be the heads of S.H.I.E.L.D. which includes the unrecognizable Hayley Atwell once again reprising her role as Peggy Carter.

Howard Stark

The appearance of the older Howard Stark (John Slattery) shouldn’t be a surprise since we are dealing with SHIELD here and we know thanks to the two TV series Marvel has under their belt that it was Howard Stark and Peggy Carter who started SHIELD after the fall of Captain America. It was a surprise however to see Marvel expand the role of the older Stark for the film franchise.

Milgrom Hotel

The Milgrom Hotel is where Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) finds himself living after his release from prison. The hotel’s name is based on West Coast Avengers writer Al Milgrom.

Michael Pena’s whistling tune

If you tuned in properly, you would hear Michael Pena’s character whistling a familiar tune; yes, its the song “It’s a Small World After All”. This is the second time that Marvel has used a Disney tune in a movie; the first one was Pinocchio’s “I’ve Got Strings” for Ultron.

Stan Lee

For this movie, Stan Lee appears as a bartender towards the end of the movie when the cutie Asian writer starts looking for Scott.  Yes, “Super fine”

New Avengers Facility + Falcon

Not really an easter egg but an actual part of the film. In order to pull off the heist at Cross Industries, Scott Lang must steal something from an old Stark Warehouse outside of New York. Turns out that the “old and abandoned warehouse” has become the new Avengers Facility which we’ve seen at the end of “Avengers: Age of Ultron”.

It was a great fight too between a new Avenger and a potential Avenger.

Janet Van Dyne

Janet Van Dyne, Hank Pym’s wife and Hope Van Dyne’s mother also figures a lot in this film. She however “dies” after in a flashback scene which really breaks Hank’s heart. We are just fed the information that she disappeared in the “quantum zone” or the subatomic zone.
