Happy Birthday, What’s A Geek!
Yesterday, we celebrated the first year of What’s A Geek. It has been one year since we first took that first step into the online geek scene. Imagine, a ragtag bunch of nerdragey friends, suddenly getting an idea to just throw our nerdrage into the vast internet abyss in the hopes of getting our voices heard.
And so far, it’s worked.
And, yeah. One year of What’s A Geek. We’re not perfect yet, far from it. We’re still getting our bearings despite one whole year of trial and error, yelling at video games and comics, fangirling about books and movies, and even attending star-studded geek events in the local scene. We’re still getting our feet wet, and that’s what excites me the most.
In a year, we’ve churned out almost a thousand articles, news, reviews, insights, and even thorough analyses on anything and everything geek. We launched our Official Facebook Page and Twitter, and followed it up with our Instagram. We’ve attended conventions, panels, fan gatherings, and even our own little meet-ups where we just talk about our favorite geeky things. We’ve even produced a number of podcast episodes where we just release our inner geeks.
I’ve seen this group grow up, trip, and roll around in the mud before getting back up with even more nerdrage and fangirling. We’ve had parties, workshops, and sometimes, we manage to achieve these things with some sense of organization. But that’s just the beginning. On top of all of that, we have a dream.
It’s going to take more than just lifting Mjolnir, or making the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs, or even collecting all the cat treasures in Neko Atsume to achieve the What’s A Geek dream. Despite that, though, I believe we can make it.
So here’s to you, What’s A Geek, and all of our readers! Thanks for a great year, and here’s to more! Maybe, one day in the future, we’ll be able to really answer the question: What’s a geek? (Hint: It’s a miserable pile of nerdrage!)
