Lenovo Unveils New Legion Y740 Laptop, 1st Legion Concept Store
Lenovo fans, tech enthusiasts, and visitors alike can finally check out the tech company’s newest Legion Y740 laptop, as Lenovo officially opened its concept store to the public yesterday, Feb. 28, in SM North Edsa.
What’s A Geek! got a quick look inside Lenovo’s concept store, which definitely proves itself a step up from its previous incarnation.
Lenovo Gives A Gaze Into A Modern Avid Future
Lenovo’s newest concept store remains consistent with the tech company’s “futuristic” aesthetic. Tech fans, enthusiasts, and users familiar with Lenovo’s products will likely find a similar “vibe” going around its store.
After visitors finish mistaking the concept store for a starship, one can see the strong presence of Lenovo’s growing branding inside the space.
A strong dark interior becomes complemented with soft blue and white lights. This enhances the gamer-intensive focus of the concept store’s furniture choice and setup.
People who followed Lenovo in the news will likely remember the tech company’s focus to the “modern avid gamer.” This pertains to the group amongst Lenovo’s users that try to balance gaming with a busy professional life. The sleek, subtle, yet sophisticated approach reflects this branding very well.
Granted, more casual users may opt for a more “milder” touch, perhaps more in line with its older IdeaPad aesthetics. Regardless, any Lenovo user of any product preference will feel right at home with the concept store’s consistent palette and feel. Even more modern Yoga, IdeaPad, and Legion models seem more in line with this sleek-yet-packing aesthetic. And this is something very evident with the new store.
Not only that, but Lenovo’s slight departure away from intensely-angular, colorful, and detail-heavy “gamer” aesthetics don’t isolate its target market. Gamers who aren’t too into Lenovo will still feel welcome in the concept store. This is especially if they’re looking for a change of pace.
Legion Y740: Beyond Appearances
Lenovo’s change of look didn’t come out of nothing, though. In a way, this proves Lenovo’s commitment to its “modern avid gamer” approach. And what better way to showcase its new products than doing it in a place that best reflects its branding?
Beyond the concept store, Lenovo also took the opportunity to launch its newest product offering to its gaming market. The Lenovo Legion Y740 appears to be similar to the Legion Y530, in both appearance and performance. It does have key differences.
While the Legion Y500 positions itself as a brand for casual gamers, the Legion Y700 series preps itself for gamers in need of heavier gear. As such, other interesting aspects of the laptop include additions for better performance. These include:
- Coldfront, quad-ventilation system that further prevents overheating in the laptop.
- 6.7mm thin bezels on three (3) sides, which can better showcase the laptop’s 500 nits of brightness.
- Surreal Dolby Atmos audio
- Legion Vantage app, which can let users control overclocking settings for RAM and CPU
- Support for games including Anthem, Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Lenovo first announced the Legion Y740 back in this year’s Consumer Electronics Summit (CES 2019). This device packs a punch for a small frame.
This 19.99mm-thick laptop offers the power of Nvidia’s newest RTX 20 series of graphics cards. This essentially makes the Legion Y740 the smallest laptop to carry such technology.
The Legion Y740 can be purchased for PHP 119,995. If you purchase up to March 31, 2019, you can avail a free JBL Clip 2 and Lenovo Accidental Damage Protection support worth as much as PHP 9,000.
Definitely Not The Last
Michael Ngan, Lenovo Philippines’ Country General Manager, elaborated a bit on the origins of the Legion concept store. And he explained this really stemmed from Filipino gamers who thought it’s about time Lenovo marked its “territory” in the gaming scene.
“The exclusive Legion store was conceptualized to support local gaming culture, and provide virtually everything that a gamer needs,” he said.
Tristan Gonzales, 4P/Product Manager from Lenovo Philippines, elaborated on the future of Legion – which involves more than just gaming laptops.
“In the future, we want to provide everything gamers need,” he said. Gonzales added fans should likely stay tuned not just for Legion peripherals, but other tools that will give gamers everything they need for maximum gaming enjoyment.
Up For A Strong Start
Despite pressing issues in the gaming industry, Lenovo and its companions in the electronics scene remain consistent in providing unique options to their various user-base. As a result, Lenovo’s stepped up the game in diversifying its product offerings to its customers.
In fact, Lenovo intensified this “modern avid” push last year, with both new offerings and stronger partnerships with other companies.
What’s A Geek! got to review the Lenovo Legion Y530. Lenovo touts this as one of its best offerings for users who want a powerful mid-range device for both productivity and gaming.
Aside from this, Lenovo also released a slate of IdeaPad products and other offerings early last year. These present both powerful and affordable solutions to casual and intensive users.
Lenovo also announced a stronger partnership with AMD last year. This resulted in AMD-powered offerings that will surely give more options to gamers and other users alike.
And with both a national eSports competition and eSports SEA Games due this year, gamers will definitely need a diverse selection of gaming products to choose from.
