A Series of Unfortunate Events finds its new Count Olaf in NPH

Netflix is filming a production of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket at some point this year. Following in the footsteps of Jim Carrey, the internet program giant has managed to sign How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris to play Count Olaf, the strange and cruel uncle of the three orphaned protagonists Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, as they investigate the mysterious death of their parents.

The series follows the orphans on their many misfortunes, as the title suggests. And as Snicket dictates, they rarely encounter any fortune at all. If the author is to be believed, we might have to expect George R. R. Martin’s body count. After all, the books start with a mystery, and as far as this lowly code monkey knows, the series ends with more unanswered questions than expected. It’s complicated, but hey, with series such as How to Get Away with Murder having  millions of viewers, a show about bad luck and convoluted plot threads should have no problem having an audience. After all, in Netflix we trust.

David Handler, still denying he is actually Snicket in disguise, is set to executive produce the how. However, Mark Hudis, show runner of True Blood, has stepped down from the show. There is no news yet on who’s replacing him.

Netflix picked up the rights to the series in 2014. As of publication, no premiere date for the series has been set.
