Dissidia Final Fantasy to run on PlayStation 4-based Arcade Hardware
Square Enix has recently revealed more details pertaining to the upcoming arcade iteration of Dissidia Final Fantasy during a closed-door conference. Some of the biggest take-aways of the event include the revelation of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan helping out with the development of the game by making an arcade cabinet based on the PlayStation 4’s specifications and Team Ninja (the same team behind Dead or Alive) handling development of the game itself. This marks the second game in recent memory where Square Enix and Tecmo Koei (Team Ninja’s mother publisher) will be collaborating in a project after the wildly successful Dragon Quest Heroes.
It was also revealed in the conference that Dissidia Final Fantasy will have 3-on-3 battles based on the foundations of the PSP releases while running at 60fps. Currently, the plan is to have around 50+ characters in the game, with more to be added via post-launch updates and tweaks. It is scheduled for a Fall 2015 release in Japan, and will be exclusively available for arcades before development on a console version would start. Takeo Kujiraoka is the director for the project, while Takeharu Ishimoto is the composer for the music.
Among the currently confirmed characters are Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy), Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III), Terra/Tina Branford (Final Fantasy VI), Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII), Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII), Y’shtola (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn) and Ramza (Final Fantasy Tactics).
