New Death Note Film Trailer Out!
A new Death Note film, dubbed as a “forbidden sequel” to the two films which debuted in 2006, has just released their official trailer. According to Anime News Network, the 2016 Death Note film will premier on October 29 in Japan this year. Watch the trailer below:
The film, dubbed Death Note: Light up the NEW world, continues where the first two movies left off. Directed by Shinsuke Sato (Gantz, Library Wars), the film takes place 10 years after L & Light’s story. Staying true to the manga’s lore where a maximum of six Death Notes and six Shinigami can only exist in the world at a time, the film follows a brand new cast of characters: Ryuuzaki, L’s successor and a world-famous detective, played by Sousuke Ikematsu (The Last Samurai, Sand Chronicles); Yuugi Shion, a cyber terrorist and fan of the original Kira, played by Masaki Suda (Assassination Classroom, Kamen Rider W); Tsukuru Mishima, an investigator following the trail of the Death Notes, played by Masahiro Higashide (Parasyte, xxxHolic); and Sakura Aoi, an indiscriminate murderer using a Death Note, played by former AKB48 member, Rina Kawaei. Erika Toda (Liar Game) and Shidou Nakamura (Red Cliff) will be reprising their roles as Misa Amane and Ryuk, respectively.
Death Note: Light up the NEW world was first announced last September 2015, after the TV adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note manga ended.
