A Generation Later, ‘The Last Guardian’ is Finally Coming

Sony started their E3 conference with a bang. After 2 years of silence, we finally get to see new footage of Team Ico and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio’s latest title: The Last Guardian

Not only is this new footage, it’s actual gameplay footage. From the looks of it, the game will play like a puzzle platformer, and it revolves around traversing the environment with the help of Trico (the name of creature in the game). From what I can gather from the preview, the game looks (both mechanically and graphically) similar to it’s predecessors: Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The calling mechanic used to communicate with Trico is reminiscent of how Ico and Yorda, the protagonists of Ico,  interacted in the game. Similarly it’s the same mechanic used in Shadow of the Colossus when the protagonist Wander calls for his horse Agro.

Overall the game looks amazing. It is of the quality we come to expect from Team Ico, and I personally really look forward to getting hands-on experience with the game. The Last Guardian has a release window of 2016 and will be available on the Playstation 4. Hopefully the 8 year long wait for the game will be worth it.
