October 2018 Events And Happenings Calendar – What’s A Geek!

You may think geek events are over when our pal Jose Mari Chan officially opened the Holiday Season with his tunes. However, geeking out doesn’t exactly follow a schedule. In fact, sometimes it gets you in the zone regardless of what you’re doing. For instance, in this October 2018 events and happenings calendar, we’ll see October isn’t always about the spooky.

October 2018 Events And Happenings: Not Always For Spooks!

In this article, the What’s A Geek! gang has compiled some of the most interesting events set to happen in October. To our surprise, it turns out October 2018 shapes up to be quite the non-scary endeavor. Interestingly enough, October this year highlights indie creators, art enthusiasts, developers, and gamers.

Week 1 (October 1 to 6)

On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink (Oct. 3)

Let’s start October right. And by right, as in with Mean Girls. It’s very likely that we’ve all met a Mean Girl at some point in our lives. Or maybe you were the Mean Girls? Regardless, if you have remarkable love for the film, go to Catch272 this Oct. 3 for the festivities. It won’t be just a regular gathering though. There will games, trivia, and maybe even a Spring Fling King and Queen!

Lace Up! 2018 (Oct. 6)

If you consider yourself a fashion enthusiast, Lace Up! 2018 might be up your alley. VentureSpace PH will be hosting this awesome Philippine Gothic and Lolita event just for you this Oct. 6. The mini-convention serves as the 9th anniversary of the Philippine Gothic and Lolita community. Fellow fans of the genre can immerse themselves in a spell that involves the promotion of lolita fashion through merchandise booths, interacting with local creators in exhibits, and even a fashion show.

Week 2 (October 7 to 13)

Kontrabida Ball 2: Happily Never After (Oct. 13)

Who said only the bidas get to be in a ball? If you go to One Cafe in Pasig this Oct. 13, you might be surprised who’s running the show. In this year’s Kontrabida Ball 2, you can dress up as your favorite villain and party with your, well, fellow villains. Did you get to defeat your nemesis? Did you finally get Charming? Were you able to enact your evil schemes? Or did Igor take a day off? No worries, we got you.

DevFest Philippines 2018 (Oct. 13)

Alternatively, Century Park Hotel in Manila hosts perhaps the biggest developer conference in the country. Folks from Google Developer Group Philippines want enthusiasts to gather to discuss cloud, web, Android, and AI technologies. This will be in the form of showcases, workshops, and sessions fit for enthusiasts.

Week 3 (October 14 to 20)

October Komiket (Oct. 13 to 14)

Indie creators and enthusiasts ought to gather at Elements at Centris in Metro Manila for October Komiket 2018. What’s A Geek! advocates the support of local talent, and what better way to do that but to mingle with them! Yes, in the flesh! October Komiket gathers komiks illustrators, writers, artists, and creators in this huge komiks and art market. If you visit on Oct. 13 to 14, you’d get to see as many as 500 creators showcasing just what local talent is about.

10th ManilArt Art Fair And Exhibition (Oct. 17 to 21)

SM Aura Premier hosts the 10th ManilArt Art Fair and Exhibition, which gathers quite a lot of the best pieces of art from the country’s local talent. The fair will mark its 10th year with “Ang ARTe ng Pilipinas,” which hopes to showcase the Filipino’s natural propensity for creativity. According to their Facebook event’s description, the fair hopes to show that making art not only expresses oneself, but also “preserves the stories of the community and challenges boundaries.” Intrigued yet? Attend this Oct. 17 to 21!

INKfest 2018 (Oct. 20)

Since when did you last draw with ink? If you’ve missed the sensation of getting your strokes properly, you may want to go to INKfest this year. Head straight to Fully Booked in Bonifacio Global City this Oct. 20 so you can celebrate books, illustration, and art for kids. You’ll also witness exhibits, an illustration masterclass, and engage with fellow enthusiasts in storytelling and drawing activities.

Week 4 (October 21 to 27)

Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit 2018 (Oct. 26 to 28)

Gamers around the Philippines ought to gear up for perhaps the biggest gaming convention in the country. ESGS 2018 touts itself as one of the biggest gaming conventions in Southeast Asia, and for good reason. The What’s A Geek! crew attended previous ESGS 2018 events in the past – all of them nothing short of amazing. Go to the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City this Oct. 26 to Oct. 28 and be part of the fun! Apparently this year, not only will there be gaming exhibitions and competitions, but organizations and companies have surprises in store, too.

Shake, Rattle, and Run! (Oct. 28)

The Holidays lurk just around the corner, and #BalikAlindog2019 looms to strike us when it’s hot. So while you’re at it, why not start the fitness habit with a bit of a spook? Shake, Rattle, and Run 2018 pegs a running event in the vein of the popular Filipino horror franchise. Join fellow horror fans and fitness enthusiasts at the CCP Complex on Oct. 27!

The Verdict: October 2018 Events To Almost Cap The Year

You’d think October would have less “fun” events to prepare for the holiday season. Or if it did, much of October events would likely be all about horror. We were just as surprised when it turns out none of this was the case. Save for the exciting Kontrabida Ball, creativity and passion seems to flow right into the hearts of geeks and enthusiasts as the year ends.

Which of these events will you attend? You might catch our crew in some of these gatherings! Don’t be afraid to say “Hi!” if you do!
